Tashichho-Dzong ‘The Fortress of the Auspicious Religion’ delights the eye with its balanced proportions and air of majesty. Its history is very old dating back to the 13^th century.  After the Third King, His Majesty, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck made Thimphu the permanent capital, he started to enlarge the Dzong in 1962 so that it could serve as the seat of government. The new dzong is constructed using the traditional methods and consecrated between 24 and 26 June 1969.
