BUMTHANG

Bumthang is the general name given to a complex of four valleys – Chumey, Choekhor, Tang and Ura with altitudes varying from 2600 metres to 4000 metres. In former times the Bumthang valleys were fairly poor and isolated, but since the construction of the east-west road the area has undergone significant economic development. Added to this, tourism, projects financed by Switzerland such as potato cultivation and the small Indian hydro-electric station are helping Bumthang attain a good level of prosperity.  Now the Bumthang has got a domestic airport which is under plan to upgrade to international airport.
